Sorry....

Okay, so my shop blog and this blog are on the same page AND use the same template which means that, if I'm not paying attention I can accidentally post to the wrong blog!! I did that today and I think it takes up to 24 hours to remove the mistake. Sorry!!!

Habitat for Humanity Pieced Afghan Project

For this project, we're making three blankets which will be given to the recipients of Habitat for Humanity houses at a dedication ceremony on June 30, 2007. These are pieced blankets, much in the tradition of a pieced quilt but using knitted squares instead of fabric.

We’re using Cascade 220 Superwash Yarn in these seven yummy earthy colors:
#863
#873
#855
#888
#823
#823
#862

Using #8 needles and a cast-on of anywhere between 35-38 stitches, knit a square any way you'd like: a solid garter square, a multi-colored square, a patterned square...Whatever suits your fancy and level of experience.

And I'm using the word "square" very loosely here. We're not making any attempt to create an afghan of uniformly-sized pieces, so no worries! The beauty of this kind of project is in the variations.

Don't fret about mistakes either. There's a quilting tradition that bears repeating: quilters often consciously put a flaw into their work - a reminder that perfection belongs to no one but God. :-)

Please finish your work by weaving in the loose ends, giving your squares a gentle warm water wash, and then blocking and air drying them so they're ready to be pieced.

I'll need all squares no later than Friday, May 18th.

Thanks so much! Have fun.

P.S. Is anyone willing to organize a U-Knitarian presence at the dedication and work with the HH people on this? I'll be out of town on that date. (We'll also need a photographer to document the proceedings for our scrapbook!)
